Voiding the Real is a debut collaborative EP of Sophulate & Jo Lenin that explores the sonic borders of drum & bass through the experimental production of leftfield electronics.
The working process at the time of the pandemic was challenged by the distance between collaborators' working environments. While Jo Lenin was producing his pieces for the EP in Moscow, Russia, Sophulate was creating his compositions in Los Angeles, California.
Half a year ago, the other collaborative art project gathered the forces of Matvey (Sophulate) and Roman (Jo Lenin) - Steklo & Stuk came out as a poetry and photography book setting the scene for the long-term artistic connection between the artists.
While observing the visual part of the work, one could see the color contrast of the album cover as an addition to the sharpness of the music while on the contrary depicting blurry silhouettes of the members of the club culture in Moscow. The visual part of the work represents artists’ views on the idea of genres in the modern age of music and their will to expand and abstract the limits of music perception.
